About Carina

Navigating the complexities of childhood and adolescence can be challenging—for both young individuals and their families. As a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work from Dalhousie University and over 16 years of experience, I have dedicated my career to supporting children, youth, and families in navigating mental health challenges. My journey has taken me through various community and clinical settings, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs of young individuals.

In addition to my work at Alberta Therapy Co., I serve as the Program Manager for a Mental Health Capacity Building Program, where I lead efforts to enhance school-based mental health supports for students across Alberta. This involves working collaboratively with students, families, educators, and community stakeholders to build resilience by strengthening protective factors such as emotional regulation, social connectedness, self-efficacy, and access to supportive environments.

I believe in creating a culture of mental wellness for young people—one that normalizes conversations about mental health, fosters resilience, and empowers young people to seek the support they need to feel seen, heard and valued. My therapeutic practice integrates Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, fostering a collaborative environment where clients actively participate in crafting their path to well-being. These modalities promote healing and growth through empowering individuals to reframe their personal narratives, focus on strengths and solutions, and cultivate the motivation needed for meaningful change.

Beyond my professional life, I spend my time embracing the joyful chaos of my own family life. My spare moments are most often spent at the hockey rink cheering on my 3 girls or enjoying the great outdoors. An animal lover and outdoor enthusiast, I find solace and inspiration in nature—whether it's exploring scenic trails, fishing on tranquil waters, or simply enjoying a moment under the open sky, these experiences enrich my perspective and reinforce my commitment to fostering holistic well-being in both my family and the families I support.
