Occupational Therapist

About Laura

Hello! My name is Laura Thoreson and I am an Occupational Therapist and graduate from the University of Alberta MScOT program (2010). I love working with families and have more than a decade of experience supporting children (aged 1-18 years) in many areas including sensory processing, interoception, picky eating, fine/gross motor development, and self-regulation. I have worked in different settings including classrooms, daycares, in-home and online, and understand the importance of open communication and collaboration among all members of a child's care team.

I believe in a neuroaffirming, play-based approach to therapy, where meaningful occupational therapy goals are co-created with clients and families while incorporating each child's unique strengths and interests.

I have spent many years working with families receiving FSCD supports and have ample experience navigating the FSCD program alongside them, ensuring their child's needs and strengths are accurately captured. As a neurodivergent person myself, I have a special passion and joy for working with neurodiverse clients.

When I’m not in the clinic, you can find me antiquing, attending community and live music events, and spending time with my three children. Whether we are working on fine motor skills, emotional regulation, or daily routines, I am here to support your child to achieve joyful and meaningful participation in the activities of their daily life!
